  AVOID - they try to charge you for unnecessary work. I went for an MoT and when I queried why the MoT man was taking my headlight apart (it's banned in the MoT handbook to remove anything on a vehicle being tested), I was told it was because a lamp had gone and I'd have to pay £15 for this lamp otherwise my car would fail it's MoT. I complained and asked for the faulty lamp back and was denied it and instead told I could have the lamp for free. (Attempted Fraud, anyone?!) My car then failed because of an 'incorrectly aligned headlight' - the one they took out, and because the MoT tester didn't know how to use the tow-bar electrical socket. Local independent MoT tester passed the car with no issues. You're lured in with low MoT prices, then they try to make up the shortfall by defrauding you. AVOID.

  Have been going to Nationwide, later Halfords, for service/MoT since before 2006 - at least 11 years. Have always had friendly service and advice and good value. Never felt conned, as I used to with most other garages. These reviewers who have given them one star - do they ever talk to the staff to find out why certain things have been done or recommended? Do they ever complain if they have been kept waiting a long time or if the toilet is dirty? The garage may have the odd newbie who doesn't know the ropes, but they can fix it. I have never been kept waiting because I leave the car and they phone me when it's ready. I never use the toilet. And if I want to discuss anything, David is always helpful.
